Letter to my team from our Coach

What is a Hero?
According to Webster, a hero is one that shows great
courage; one admired for her/his achievements and
noble qualities; one endowed with great strength or
ability.

That describes every one of you.  You are all heroes.

It takes an enormous amount of courage and strength,
both physical and mental, to do what you will do on event weekend.
You will do something that the other 99% of the
population make up excuses not to do. And, if that wasn't enough,
you are saving lives along the way. That makes you SUPER HEROES!!!

Expect some pain during the event. I've never done a
marathon or half marathon that hasn't caused some
discomfort.  But you are well trained, in body and mind, and
heroes can handle a little pain because they know it's
only temporary.

When the goin' gets tough out there, think about why
you're doing this and who you're doing it for. Look
over at the person closest to you and say, "I'm a
hero!" And tell them that they are a hero, too.

GO TEAM!!!
Coach Brad

Tooting my own Horn

Let me start by saying that running 20 miles is NOT easy.  In the words of my coach, "if it were easy, everyone would do it."  With that said, it was my goal to enjoy the hell out of my 20 mile run this morning.  I pumped myself up for it all week.

I bought inspiration stickers.

I spent time with motivating and inspirational people.

And I chanted positive affirmations throughout the days.

So this morning, I woke up early (4 am) and said my prayers over my whole wheat toast with pb and banana.  I prayed for safety, a good attitude, and a kick ass time.  Yup I really said "kick ass" when talking to God.  He likes it when I'm real with Him.

And a kick ass time I had.

I had a beautiful run through the North End.  Fall was in full bloom.
Bloom?
Can fall bloom?  Maybe fall was in full beautiful dead sounds better?
I'm not sure.  Anyhow.  Whatever you call it, fall was showing off its colors wonderfully.

Around mile 13ish I saw the most perfect pile of leaves that I just had to run through.  I gave a few people a good laugh, along with myself.  Kick ass time continues.

Yup.
20.

Freaking awesome... er... Kick Ass

Only 2 weeks until the marathon!

Fall??

It may be 95 degrees on Oct 1st this year, but at least it looks like fall.

Meant to Be

I've been freaking out recently over my marathon. Going back-and-forth in my head whether I'm even going to attempt for the full in San Fransisco in 3 weeks. I've been stressing over the distance, and the weather, and blah, blah, blah...

I think the challenge of a full should be an exciting endeavor and the unknown exciting, but it hasn't been working out that way.
So this morning, in an attempt to buy some cool stuff and re-jazz my enthusiasm, I stopped in at our local running store to get some supplies for the upcoming Marathon.  Still having mini panic attacks and wondering whether or not I really needed all that GU I was buying, I noticed new stickers on the counter.

Many of them jumped out at me (obviously since I bought 4).  But the Hebrews verse literally made me giddy with happiness. The poor employee at the counter thought I was having a spasm or something.  When I explained that "perseverance" is my word, he just smiled and said "it's meant to be."

Yes counter employee man, it does indeed seem meant to be.  I believe it may even be a sign that I am going to not only attempt the full marathon in 3 weeks, but I may just persevere and rock it.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
   ~Hebrews 12:1 NIV

PS- I think I've discovered the text portion of my tattoo that I'm rewarding myself with after I cross the finish line :)
